Bexhill Bulletin

Summer Term 2018/19 Week Beginning 24th June 2019

Diary

 Dear Parents and Carers,

Apologies with the lateness of this weeks bulletin, but you may have seen on our facebook page that this week has been slightly hectic! Well done to all the children who were on resident ails this week (and last week in the Lakes), their behaviour was impeccable!!!

OFSTED Report

Our report has been officially released now and you will have a paper copy sent home next week. We are proud to say that we are a good school but the inspectors think we could be outstanding so will be returning next year to complete another inspection where they will hopefully gather enough evidence to change our judgement from good to outstanding! Well done staff, children and parents you are all fabulous!

One of the areas they said we need to improve on dramatically is attendance, so due to this we are making changes to some of our policies and procedures as we need our children in school more often.

Year 1  Phonics results

The staff and children in Year have been working incredibly hard this year to ensure that children do the best that they can in their phonics screening test. This year has been exceptional and we have had our highest results at Bexhill Academy with a whopping 85% pass rate. Well done everyone, we are very proud of you!

Children had to score 32 or more to pass. You will receive an official notification from your class teacher to let you know how your child did individually.

Year 2 Sats Results

Children will receive these officially in their end of term reports, but we are delighted with the children achievements and progress.

Reading at Expected Level - 83%

Reading at Greater Depth Level - 29%

Writing at Expected Level -81%

Writing at Greater Depth Level -22%

Maths at Expected Level - 80%

Maths at Greater Depth Level -19%

Well done Year 2 - what an awesome achievement!

Year 6 Results

These will be announced on the 9th July

Year 1/2 trip to Raby Castle

To end our castles topic, we thought it would be an amazing experience for the children to visit an actual real-life castle. Therefore, we have arranged a trip to visit Raby Castle in Darlington. The cost of the trip will be £11.50 per child, which is to cover the cost of the coach, entry to the castle and the different workshops the children will be taking part in throughout the day.

Year 1 children will be visiting on Wednesday 3rd July

Year 2 children will be visiting on Thursday 4th July.

EYFS End Event for 2 Year olds and Nursery Children

To celebrate the end our topic ‘Traditional Tales’ we would like the children to experience a trip to West Boldon Lodge where they will experience a range of outdoor activities linked to their favourite stories on Tuesday 16th July.

This will be a half day visit. The cost of the trip will be £5.20 to cover transport costs and the activities/resources provided by the venue. Please pay the cost of this trip by Friday 12th July. Your child will attend the trip during their morning or afternoon session and please ensure your child arrives to school on time as we will be leaving promptly to make the most of our time there.

Childcare/30 hours will be as normal this day and your child with attend the trip either on the morning or afternoon and stay in school with a member of the nursery team for the opposite session.

Please ensure your child:

  • wears old clothes that can get dirty and wears long sleeves and trousers to avoid insect bites and nettle stings.
  • has a lightweight raincoat and wellingtons.
  • has sun protection cream applied BEFORE they come to nursery if the weather is predicted to be hot.
  • has a cap or a sun hat.

Sportsday (EYFS and KS1)

Wednesday 17th July 2019

Your child needs to come into school in their full PE kit (purple t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls).

If your child is in Nursery or Reception, the gates to the field will open at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.

(If your child attends an afternoon nursery session and would like to join in they can come in 9.15-10.30am in addition to their PM session)

If your child is in Year 1 or Year 2, the gates to the field will open at 10:30am for a 10:45am start.

The gates will be locked shortly after these times so please ensure you arrive on time.

If the weather is forecast to be hot, please apply sun cream before your child comes to school and supply your child with a sun hat and water bottle.

There will be an area for parents to sit/stand. It is highly important that you remain in this area before and during the races and it is equally important that your child remains in their area with their teachers. However, at the end of all of the activities, you will be able to speak to your child and purchase refreshments. We look forward to seeing you there.

Reception Graduation

This will take place on the 10th July at Please look out for more information nearer the time.

Water Wipeout

On Thursday 11th July, children will be taking part in ‘Bexhill’s Water Wipeout’. This will be a sponsored event  to raise money for our playground (we are very close to the the target amount!). Every child who raises £5 or more they will be entered in to a prize draw. There will also be a prize for the child who raises the most money! Children will take part in a fun run around the field with some obstacles and challenges. Look out for more details nearer the time.

Y6 Leavers

Please note leavers assembly will take place at the Town End Club on the 16th July. It will take place on the afternoon and then there will be a celebration for the children after school.

Bikes/Scooters

Please can you ask all children (and adults) to not ride bikes and scooters in the yard, it is far too congested. Last week there was quite a few accidents, so please refrain from doing this and wait until you get out the gate.

Staffing update:

Mrs Lillie has now left us to start her maternity leave. Good luck Mrs Lillie we can’t wait to meet him/her!!!

Attendance

If your child is absent, please ensure you ring and let us know. If we don’t hear from you, it takes a lot of time from our office staff to try and get in touch with you.  We need to know the reason  why your child isn’t in school. If we are concerned about your child then we may do a home visit for safeguarding purposes.

This weeks attendance is 95%

Miss Crowder’s and Mrs Letton’s class won the attendance award (again!) with 100%  Well done everyone!

Term Time Holidays

Our attendance has been a great concern to us for a while and again it was picked up as an issue in our recent OFSTED. One of the  main problems  is children taking holidays in term time. Over 80 families have done this so far and as you can understand this has had a massive impact upon our attendance. Although we understand prices of holidays increase significantly in the school holidays, we need to be more pro active in ensuring our children are at school.

As a school we will be working with the Local Authority to tighten up penalty procedures regarding this issue from September.

Lates

From Monday if your child is late, you will need to complete some paperwork. Pease do not leave your child in reception until this has been completed. We will of course support you if you require support with this.
