Bexhill Bulletin

Autumn Term 2018 Week Beginning 3rd September

Welcome Back!

Welcome back! We hope you have all had an amazing Summer. This year we are going to trial our very own Bexhill Bulletin! The idea is that this will be updated every week and will be available online via our school website and Facebook page. Hopefully it will have all the information you need and you can refer back to previous copies if you should need to do so! It will also help to save the planet too, as we will not be printing paper copies. Each week  important dates will be added to the calendar to help you stay organised!

New Children and Parents

A BIG welcome to all our new parents and children, who have started with us at Bexhill Academy this September. Myself (Mrs Walton - Headteacher), Mrs Robson (Deputy Head) or Mrs Waterson (family liason manager)  will be on the gate before and after school should you have any queries. Teachers unfortunately will not be able to meet with you on a morning as they are in the classrooms with the children. However a  member of staff is available on the door to pass messages on to their teacher. If you wish to meet with a certain member of staff then please ring the office to arrange an appointment (0191 7070120).

Swimming:

As of  Tuesday 11th September our year 4 children will start swimming, they need to bring with them their full kit. Girls -Black/Navy swimming costume (no bikini), towel and a swimming cap  Boys - Black/Navy trunks (not shorts), swimming cap and towel.

PE Kits

Please can  all items of clothing have their names on including their bags. Therefore when a bag is found we know who it belongs to without having to pull out the entire contents. PE kits need to contain a pair of trainers/gym shoes, a black pair of shorts and a purple t-shirt. PE kits need to be in school all week. They can be taken home on a Friday to be washed as long as they are returned on a Monday.

Jewellery

No jewellery should be worn at school, other than a watch. This includes ear rings. All ear rings need to be taken out before arriving at school as it is a health and safety requirement.

Dogs

Please note that dogs are not allowed on school premises. This includes when you hold them in your hands!

London

For our current Year 5/6 pupils - Please remember all slips need to be in school by Friday the 14th and deposits in by the 28th. Sorry for any confusion.

News update

Over the Summer Holidays, we have had our hall renovated! During October half term our outdoor football pitch will be built. Due to all your amazing fundraising we have raised over £3000 towards our playground structure.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We are holding a coffee morning in school on Wednesday 26th September (9- 10am).  Last year we raised over £400 for this charity so we are hoping to raise even more this year. More information to follow!

Assemblies

This year our assemblies are taking a Personal Social Health  Education and Citizenship approach. We will share stories that discuss feelings and British Values. The first half term will focus on same sex relationships. The British Values taught this half term are tolerance and mutual respect.

Afterschool Letters

Please look out for letters that came home this week where children can sign up to our After School Clubs at Bexhill.

Behaviour

We have reassessed our behaviour policy this year. We are introducing a new electronic behaviour reward system called Class Dojo. we are trialling it this term and very soon we will be launching it to parents, so you can see how fantastically behaved your children are.

Children this term will be grouped into houses. We welcome :

Darling House (named after Grace Darling who rescued many lives)

Mandela House (named after  Nelson Mandela who was a South African politican who changed the lives of many)

Austen House (named after the famous author Jane Austen)

Hawking House (after the famous scientist Stephen Hawking)

Every week there will be a trophy up for grabs to the house who have collected the most Dojos! The children will be able to spend their Dojos on a half termly basis at our school shop!

This year children will only miss parts of their lunch and playtime if they haven't produced work to the best of their ability rather than for poor choices of behaviour.

Every Friday, the children will take part  in Enrichment Time, which is an activity that they have chosen to do e.g football, cookery, rock painting etc.

If poor choices of behaviour are made, then they will lose time from their enrichment choice. We are hoping that this change in our policy promotes more positive behaviour and happy children, teachers and parents.

Attendance

Attendance as a whole this week is 97%

Well done to the following classes who all had 100%

Mrs Lewis, Mrs McGovan, Mrs Major/Potts, Miss Cutler and Mrs Carr. They all received a £5 note for their class chart.in

Writing - 86% of children achieved the national expected standard

Maths - 93% of children achieved the national expected standard

A whopping 86% of our children achieved  the national expected standard in Reading, Writing and Maths!

  • One of our Year 6 pupils (Leah) competed in the Creme De La Creme at the WEDC in Ireland. She was extremely successful and was the overall winner in the under 12 grand Prix as well as under 12 solo and slow championship winner. She also took part in a lyrical improvisation challenge, which had over 70 children in it. Amazingly, she was one of only three finalists. Such an amazing achievement for her dancing especially in only one competition! Well done Leah!
  • Jesse (in Year 6) has been for trials with Sunderland Boys. He has been successful and has now signed for them. We are over the moon for him and his family and we are very pleased he is part of our school team too! He has his first match on Saturday against Leeds Boys.
