Bexhill Bulletin

Summer Term 2018/19 Week Beginning 8th  July 2019

 Dear Parents and Carers,

School results

Last week I reported our Y1 and Year 2 data.

This week we are sharing our Early Years data. Incredibly, 71% of our children got to a good learning  of development. This is in line with  National Expectations.

On Tuesday we obtained our Year 6 SATS results. As you can see from the information shown below, we have yet again done well (even with the National pass mark rising).

These results are a testament to the children’s fabulous dedication and hard work. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible staff within school who have taught, supported and encouraged our children along the way.

Water Wipeout

Thank you very much for all your support with this! The children had a lot of fun and all for a good cause too. If you haven’t handed your sponsor money in, please can you do so by Tuesday.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have a parent governor vacancy. This is an opportunity to sit on our governing body and play a crucial part in how our school is managed. if you are interested, please let Mrs Walton know and we will send an application pack your way.

EYFS End Event for 2 Year olds and Nursery Children

To celebrate the end our topic ‘Traditional Tales’ we would like the children to experience a trip to West Boldon Lodge where they will experience a range of outdoor activities linked to their favourite stories on Tuesday 16th July.

This will be a half day visit. The cost of the trip will be £5.20 to cover transport costs and the activities/resources provided by the venue. Please pay the cost of this trip by Friday 12th July. Your child will attend the trip during their morning or afternoon session and please ensure your child arrives to school on time as we will be leaving promptly to make the most of our time there.

Childcare/30 hours will be as normal this day and your child with attend the trip either on the morning or afternoon and stay in school with a member of the nursery team for the opposite session.

Please ensure your child:

  • wears old clothes that can get dirty and wears long sleeves and trousers to avoid insect bites and nettle stings.
  • has a lightweight raincoat and wellingtons.
  • has sun protection cream applied BEFORE they come to nursery if the weather is predicted to be hot.
  • has a cap or a sun hat.

Reception Graduation

Thank you to all our parents who were able to attend Graduation this week, the children as usual did us all very proud!

Year 3/4 End Event

The Year 3/4 Viking performance is on Monday 15th July.

Y3 - 9:30

 Y4 - 2:15

Our children have  made their own invitations for you and these went home the start of last week.

Y6 Leavers Assembly and Celebration

Incredibly, it is nearly time for our Year 6 children to leave Bexhill Academy and go on to bigger and better things at secondary school! To celebrate the end of their Bexhill journey, the children and teachers are going to look back at some of the amazing times they have had at school.

The Y6 Graduation will take place at Townend Farm Club on Tuesday 16th July and doors will open at 1:30pm, with the show starting soon after at 1.45pm. We have chosen to have the Graduation at this fabulous venue following parental feedback about our Christmas End event in December and due to the limited capacity of our hall. This means that we should be able to offer more tickets per family within reason.

If you are planning on joining us for the Graduation, please return the slip below, indicating how many tickets you will need below.

After the Graduation (which will end at approximately 3pm), at 4pm we are going to host a Graduation Party for our Year 6 leavers. This gives our pupils an hour, to go home get ready and return to Townend Farm Club for the party. The party will be from 4pm until 6pm. Please tick to let us know if you will be collecting your child at 6pm.

Sports-day (EYFS and KS1)

Wednesday 17th July 2019

Your child needs to come into school in their full PE kit (purple t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsolls).

If your child is in Nursery or Reception, the gates to the field will open at 9.15am for a 9.30am start.

(If your child attends an afternoon nursery session and would like to join in they can come in 9.15-10.30am in addition to their PM session)

If your child is in Year 1 or Year 2, the gates to the field will open at 10:30am for a 10:45am start.

The gates will be locked shortly after these times so please ensure you arrive on time.

If the weather is forecast to be hot, please apply sun cream before your child comes to school and supply your child with a sun hat and water bottle.

There will be an area for parents to sit/stand. It is highly important that you remain in this area before and during the races and it is equally important that your child remains in their area with their teachers. However, at the end of all of the activities, you will be able to speak to your child and purchase refreshments. We look forward to seeing you there.

Debt

Several parents still owe money for dinners, some over £100. Please can all owed money be paid. Unfortunately if debts aren’t cleared then children will need to be on Packed Lunches in September until all debt is cleared.

Can all childcare fees be paid also.

Attendance

This weeks attendance is 93% Several families are taking term time holidays and this is affecting us 🙁

Class DoJo

The children have been saving their DoJo’s all year and will be able to spend them next week. Tell them to look out for their choices this week!

Term Time Holidays

Our attendance has been a great concern to us for a while and again it was picked up as an issue in our recent OFSTED. One of the  main problems  is children taking holidays in term time. Over 80 families have done this so far and as you can understand this has had a massive impact upon our attendance. Although we understand prices of holidays increase significantly in the school holidays, we need to be more pro active in ensuring our children are at school.

As a school we will be working with the Local Authority to tighten up penalty procedures regarding this issue from September.

Please note that the government have has announced that it is changing the traditional May Day Bank Holiday from Monday 4th May to Friday 8th May 2020.

See announcement here: -

Lates

If your child is late, you will need to complete some paperwork. Pease do not leave your child in reception until this has been completed. We will of course support you if you require support with this.
