House Captains

Every pupil at Bexhill Academy is part of a family house, whom they work alongside for family days, inter-school competitions and house points. Our academy has four houses, each one carefully chosen to embody the attributes and principles of an esteemed individual whom we deeply admire. These houses are named Austen, Darling, Hawking, and Mandela.

Each house has a House Captain and Deputy House Captain, which are chosen for by the students. The position of House and Deputy Captains is one of privilege, pride, and responsibility. It is a role that extends beyond a mere title and badge, requiring a year-long commitment and unwavering dedication. The children who hold these positions engage in active citizenship, leading a series of charitable events throughout the school year. These events range from major national initiatives, such as Children in Need, to more localised efforts, such as food collection for the Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen.

Each Captain brings a unique set of skills and ideas to the role, but all share common characteristics. They are polite, well-mannered, organised, and committed. They possess the ability to speak confidently and present themselves well in uniform and appearance. They have a strong desire to act responsibly and serve as role models for their peers, demonstrating care, maturity, and honesty.
