Years 1 & 2
Key Stage 1 is broken down into two year groups (Y1 and Y2). The children are in four different classes and are streamed by ability in Literacy and Maths. We also operate a ‘Nurture Group’ to support those children who need to be taught in smaller groups or need a personalised curriculum.
We teach reading through a phonics scheme called Read, Write Inc and parents are asked to read with their children at least three times a week. Our exciting Keys Stage 1 curriculum offers our children the opportunity to develop lots of skills and knowledge to prepare them for Key Stage 1.
Children in Key Stage 1 have a morning break and an afternoon break.
In Year 1 children complete a phonics screening check at the end of the year to test their phonics skills.
In Year 2 children complete their SATs Assessments in Reading and Maths in May.
Children all get the opportunity for Enrichment which take place on a weekly basis. Our PSHE Scheme is complimented through our assembly programme which teaches our children about British Values, global citizenship and the protected characteristics through stories. This is then then discussed in detail in the classroom at an appropriate level specific to their year group.
