Hello and welcome to Lower Key Stage 2!

Key Stage 2 is broken into Lower Key Stage 2 and Upper Key Stage 2. In Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) the children receive a broad and balanced curriculum that enables pupils to progressively build and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills through all Key Stages. The carefully sequenced curriculum is accessible and inclusive of all learners.

Reading, Writing and Maths continue to be a priority for all children throughout Key Stage 2. Phonics lessons continue for those children that require it. Once children are fluent readers, they move onto our Accelerated Reader Scheme, which helps students and teachers manage and monitor independent reading practice. Students pick a book at their own level and read it at their own pace, helping to develop their reading skills and develop a love for reading

Maths is continued to be taught using White Rose Hub as an enhancement to our provision for Key Stage 2. In Year 4 children complete a statutory Multiplication Check in the Summer Term, therefore we use Times Tables Rock Star, which is a fierce competition across the key stage where children are competing constantly to improve their score and improve their times tables knowledge.

Our intent is to provide a bespoke curriculum which acknowledges our school’s unique characteristics and meets the needs of our pupils. Our provision is supported by all children in years 3 and 4 having 1:1 access to an iPad to help them with their learning. Bexhill Academy strives to provide children with opportunities to enhance pupils’ experiences and develop their confidence and independence, this is supported by a one night camping residential for children in Lower Key Stage 2 to prepare them for Year 5/6 residentials.

Our PSHE and Citizenship scheme which begins in Key Stage 1 continues throughout Key Stage 2, providing children with opportunities to enhance their awareness of British Values, global citizenship and the protected characteristics, supporting them in becoming confident citizens in society.
