Autumn Term 2018 Week Beginning 30th October

Welcome back, we hope you had a lovely half term.

 Spooky Disco

Several children attended the spooky disco this year! We had a Spooktacular time. The costumes were nearly as amazing as the grins on their faces as they were having so much fun!

We raised £330 pounds to go towards our enrichment activities on a Friday afternoon.

 Historic Quay Trip (Y1/2)

Our children in Y1/2 enjoyed a trip to the Historic Quay on Tuesday dressed as Pirates. Despite the cold weather, they had a great day. Their attitude and behaviour was commented on by members of the public! Well done KS1!

 Raise cash for your school

Do you have any unwanted clothes?

The Firefighters Charity are collecting. All you need to do is put clean, dry clothing in one bag and paired shoes, belts and handbags in another. Then bring them to school before Monday 5th November.

On a slightly different matter…

Would you like more staff in your child’s class to help and support your child?

We can only do this with funding.

A large amount of our funding come from pupil premium money.

Unfortunately, only one quarter of our pupils are signed up to this due to the fact that their children are in Reception/Year 1/2 and get a free school meal anyway or their child is on packed lunches so they don’t think it applies to them. It still does matter - it matters to us and it matters to your child. Please sign up, we were £100,000 short in our budget this year due to parents not completing the application form. This could employ up to 6 more full time adults in school!

To apply for free school meals you must access the family portal on together for children at:
www.togetherforchildren.org.uk/families/free-school-meals or contact 0191 5611417 for additional support if you experience any problems or don’t have access to online.

Poppies

From Monday 5th November we will selling poppies, reflectors and stationary to raise money for the Royal Legion. Stationary ranges from 50p to £1

These will be on sale in the yard Mon- Fri at home time.

 Children in Need

On the 16th November we will be celebrating Children in Need. We ask all children to bring in £1 donation. This year, children can come as they like!. This can be fancy dress (e.g. as a celebrity of their choice, a spooky character, a footballer etc) or Pudsey clothes etc.

This choice was made by the children in our school council.

Please do not buy a new costume the whole point is to make money for Children In Need not cost you a fortune!

Half Price Book Sale

On the 26th (till 30th)November school will host a half price book sale. We do this every year and it proves to be very popular for xmas presents as well as generating free books for school too!

Governors

In our last parental survey parents stated they were not sure on the role of the governors. Currently our Chair of Governor is Mr Pearson and our Deputy Chair is Mr Braley. Our Staff governor is Miss McGovan and we have 2 parent governors: Mrs Dagg and Mrs Steinberg as well as other co-opted members. They meet on a termly basis to discuss how the school is led and managed. Safeguarding, data, attendance are all regular items on the agenda.

 Medical Updates

Please can you ensure your child’s medical details are up to date. If your child is given a diagnosis e.g. asthma/eczema then you need to let us know.

Staff update!

We are delighted to share our good news. Mrs Riddle has given birth to a baby girl called

Sophie Grace and Mrs Stark has given birth to a baby boy called Jack. Both parents and children are doing very well and we can't wait to meet the new arrivals!

 Bullying

From our recent parental survey, some parents were unsure as to whether bullying is effectively dealt with at Bexhill.

As a result, we have reviewed our current policy and created some additional actions.

Primarily, we have established an anti - bullying working party consisting of a range of adults and representatives from the school council. This team will meet regularly throughout the year to review what is happening and to make improvements where necessary.

The anti – bullying working party have decided to set up a playground buddy system.

There will be a playground buddy sign (just like a bus stop!) in the yard where children can go when they would like someone to play with.  Playground buddies will be trained to include any child that would like to join in with a range of games.

 Attendance

This weeks attendance is 96.3% - The first time we have been above National Average! Well done everyone – keep it up!

The highest class Attendance Award goes to Mrs Carr/Miss Davie – Well done everyone a fiver is in your pot!

 Behaviour

This weeks behaviour trophy goes to Mandela House! Well done everyone.

Year 6 children are currently working on our House Teams Coat of Arms. We will reveal them as soon as we are done.
