Bexhill Academy is a non-selective school for the local community. As such, the admissions policy reflects the locally co-ordinated admissions scheme. After admitting students with a statement of SEN, followed by ‘Looked After’ children, the admissions policy for the Academy prioritises brothers and sisters of children at the school and those living closest to the Academy. Our admissions policy is here.

We’re really excited to be continuing with our new curriculum this year at Bexhill. The curriculum, organised into ‘topics’ or ‘contexts’, was a huge success last year, and the second part of the two-year cycle will be introduced this year. As many of you will know by now, each topic will begin with an event or a visit to inspire the children, and will culminate in a similar event giving the children the opportunity to showcase their learning. Parents/carers are a crucial part of this – we really value your support at these events, and YOU make the end celebrations worth having. Your children like nothing more than being able to share their achievements with you. These may be in the form of an assembly, a performance, an exhibition of work… the opportunities are endless. Your child’s work from though out the term will also be on display (as will their homework – make sure they complete it on time, and to a high standard!). Thank you for your continuing support.
The Academy follows the new National Curriculum in Literacy and Maths – we’ll be sharing things from these with you throughout the year… some of the things in it are a bit tougher than they used to be! Our topics/contexts are being designed to include the best elements of other subjects. Enrichment and extra-curricular opportunities are linked in order to make learning purposeful and engaging, and, above all, to raise achievement.

Funding
Children from low-income families who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last 6 years in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months receive the Pupil Premium
The level of the premium is £600 per pupil in 2012-13 and it was recently announced this will rise to £900 in 2014-15
The amount of Pupil Premium funding received by Bexhill Academy is as follows: –

As with every child in our care, a child eligible for Pupil Premium is valued, respected and entitled to develop to his/ her full potential, irrespective of need.
Bexhill Academy uses the available resources to employ strategies which will support pupils to increase their attainment. We review performance to include new measures that show the attainment of pupils who receive the pupil premium compared with their peers. In order to meet the above requirements we ensure that provision is made which secures the teaching and learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils.
One of our main priorities is to focus on ‘Narrowing the Gap’ for those pupils not on track to achieve Level 4 at the end of Key Stage 2. In order to facilitate this we have used strategies including effective feedback to pupils and peer coaching. If you would like more information about these strategies please contact us.
The Inclusion Manager in conjunction with the academy leadership staff, will maintain an ongoing programme of support for socially disadvantaged pupils. This programme is subject to scrutiny at all levels of the governance of the academy to ensure that monies are being used to facilitate pupils’ access to education, secure pupils’ access to the curriculum, provide additional teaching and learning opportunities and explore alternative support and intervention.
Our approach to the use of the Pupil Premium is:
- Early intervention and support for socially disadvantaged children
- The vast majority of socially disadvantaged children will meet their individual targets.
- Effective parental pupil school support.
- Having an effective system for identifying, assessing and monitoring pupils.
- Having a whole-school approach to developing confident and independent learners.

School Performance
One measure of school performance are the end of KS2 Sats results. After a dip in 2014, results last year returned to the standards everyone expects at Bexhill.
End of KS2 Sats results are below. ‘Level 4’ is the expected level for an 11 year old child. A child achieving a ‘Level 5’ or better is assumed to be working above expectations.
‘Two levels progress’ is expected progress for a child between the ages of 7-11. The Academy aim to exceed national figures for children making two level gains, and even better, be in line with the number of children making three level gains, so you can be assured your child is receiving the best education possible at Bexhill.
